god only knows

Dear reader,

In case you had not noticed, i have not been around this blog much in the past few weeks, months even... i've been incredibly busy with all things work and music related, but especially busy planning what turned out to be the best day of my life! And if you have not guessed by now, then let me be the one to announce to you that adam and i got married on sunday! It was an amazing day all around thanks to our family and friends, a perfect fall weather, a beautiful ceremony, an amazing new york location, delicious food and drinks, fantastic music and lots of surprises!! Since this is a music blog, i'll give you the details of what we chose to be the soundtrack to our incredible wedding celebration...

During the procession, we had a very talented string quartet interpret The Beach Boys' God Only Knows while the bridal party and adam walked down the aisle with his parents. My parents and i walked down to Henry Mancini's Moonriver (how so audrey hepburn and new york of me!). When we were announced as husband and wife, the quartet played The Zombies' This will be our year (our favorite song and one we bonded over the first day we met). During the cocktail hour, the string quartet played a mixture of classical pieces and The beatles (adam's favorite band) as well as other contemporary songs i did not get to hear (picture time!). Our DJ for the reception was none other than Ultragrrrl (we wanted Karen as well, but she was out of town), a decision that made perfect sense on many levels... Sarah has been a long time friend of mine and adam and i met at her old party at Orchard Bar. She has all the music we love in her repertoire, and we knew she could also play all the french, italian, jewish and north african music to please our families.
We decided to have our first dance as Mr and Mrs to Serge Gainsbourg' La javanaise. We danced with our mom and dad to Sonny and Cher's I got you babe (adam's mother pick). While our guests enjoyed their dinner, we got to hear some of our favorite downtempo music including Astrud Gilberto, The Mamas and the Papas, Belle & Sebastian, Vanessa Paradis, Charles Aznavour, Elvis Presley, Die Romantik, The Ronettes and more! When it was time to party, Sarah played a mix of new wave, new bands, french music, middle eastern, 60's tunes, britpop, crooners, and even some hip hop! It was just perfect. While we were cutting our cake, everyone sang to The Turtles' Happy together, and we ended the night with another favorite, The Smiths' There is a light that never goes out.

There were two big musical surprises courtesy of our newly adopted little brother Bryan Marciano and our dear friends Die Romantik. I will mention both surprises another day, because you see my friends, i am running late to get to the airport and spend the next two weeks in Brazil with my husband! I may pop in during the honeymoon, until then...
