danse sur la merde

I've got an all-french bands post today, perhaps unintentionally in anticipation of the upcoming second round of the french presidential elections?

Tonight, local french export Elodie O plays Midway at around 10pm. If you enjoy soft electro-pop with vocals in both french and english, you'll love Elodie's enchanting music. Midway is located at 25 Avenue B at 2nd street.

Last night, i DJed at Bar 13 before french band (and friends) Neimo took the stage and rocked out the place, dance-rock style with a bit of a Stooges attitude. Neimo is, amongst a few other bands, at the top of the resurgence of a new wave of (english singing) french indie rock bands. A phenomenon that started just a few years ago and is very reminiscent of what happened in the new york music scene around 2001. Alhough i left Paris in 1994, i can attest that mainstream France is not a country generally receptive to good rock and even less to independent rock, so to see this abundance of indie rock bands making some noise, self-releasing music, playing gigs throughout europe, and even making it here, is very exciting to say the least. Neimo are off to play in LA for the weekend, before returning home, and hopefully back in new york in the near futre. Listen and download songs on myspace.

Another band that has made a bit of noise on this side of the atlantic is parasian electro-rock outfit Prototypes. Fronted by the cute, bright-clothed, and energetic Iza (a french version of Karen O?), i am so impressed by the fact that this band is garnering this much attention considering they only sing in french, except for their franglish tune Who's gonna sing?, which made its way onto a recent ishuffle commercial. This perhaps proves that if the music's good and fun, it doesn't really matter what language it is performed in. To see the band in action, here's an exclusive peek at a live video produced by Baeble Music and filmed while they played at this past SXSW festival.

With a growing video library of concerts from the new and emerging artists, Baeble Music is your one-stop shop for watching, listening, and learning about new bands of all genres. It’s the only place where a community of music fans can interact side-by-side, sharing their interests and mulength shows, smaller video clips, concert reviews, and band profiles.
