black magic
This week kicked my ass, in the best possible way! It started with last thursday, when Die Romantik and The Postmarks played together at Union Hall.
It was one the best Die Romantik shows i have seen thus far. Union Hall is such a great venue for their sound. The Postmarks also sounded great. They have really come together performance-wise. I realized that singer Tim completely reminds me of Hope Sandoval in her timid ways as well as sweet vocals.

Olivier, Eric and Dominic.

Tim and Chris of The Postmarks.
This past weekend, Die Romantik and a few of us packed our bags, instruments and records, and drove to DC to take part of the Garutachi party at the Rock and Roll Hotel, also hosted by Brightest Young Things. Die Romantik played another amazing set. They gained quite a few new fans! I got to spin some music before the girls of Le Tigre took over. Great crowd, and awesome time all around. We'll definitely be back soon!
Monday night, we went to Webster Hall to see Jarvis play new york for the first time in ages. Has everyone else in the blogosphere declared that it was one of the most amazing shows? Because it really really was. It actually made me bitter that i never saw Pulp, but let's just say, this was definitely the greatest alternative. Jarvis is a sensational performer, and although we did not expect any Pulp songs to be played, we certainly did not anticipate a Springsteen's cover (State Trooper)! I know someone who was elated...
Continuing on... tuesday morning, i got up early to do my EVR show. I love doing this show. If you have any interest in french pop from all eras of music, you must check it out.
Tuesday evening, i deejayed at the Charlotte Gainsbourg Release party. Her album 5:55 came out in the US on that day. The party was packed, i played lots of french tunes, and included a few tracks from her album. Check out these really sweet 1-minute videos directed by Charlotte's long time partner, Yvan Attal:

Finally, the week ended today on the highest note possible, when my best friend called and asked me to show up at New York's City Hall where i was the witness at her and her boyfriend of 7 years' impromptu wedding!! And now i'm off to celebrate with the newlyweds before going to DJ at Lotus from 12 to 2am...

I'm back on East Village Radio tomorrow morning! Listen live to La Décadanse from 8-10am, i'll be playing 2 hours of five decades of french pop. The show will be archived and available on podcast.
Also tomorrow is the US release of Charlotte Gainsbourg's new album 5:55. It was one of my top albums of 2006. To celebrate, i'll be spinning at the record release party here in New York. If you're around come by, i'll be playing all french pop from 7 to 9pm at Manhatta - no guest list required.
