Last week's show featuring Brookville and Tahiti 80 at the mercury lounge was awesome. It was really nice to see a room full of enthusiasts for both bands, who also happen to work together and be good friends. Brookville started with quite a melancholic pop set, playing through older and newer material. I've unfortunately never seen Ivy live, but was glad to catch the very talented Andy Chase play with a full band. Tahiti 80 came on stage and shook things up, faithfully delivering their incredibly catchy songs. They played a fairly long set, but i had to leave early to set up their after-party. The good part was that the guys of Tahiti 80 are probably one of the most fun bands to party with. They came to Luv 24/7 with all their friends and fans, dancing non-stop to Xavier's mix of 60's pop and recent hits like Junior Senior, ending the night on a high note.
Here are some photos taken by Giulia (aka the blogger formerly known as New York Doll), who was nice enough to go up front and snap some shots for me to use (just like the good old days!).

Tahiti 80's frontman Xavier.

And the hilarious Pedro.

Fujiya & Miyagi is one of the most noticeable bands coming out of the UK in recent weeks. Their debut album Transparent things is an electronic driven rock record with funny lyrics and funky moments. They're a bit hard to compare to, and if you look at their myspace page, they reference many influences, yet don't really sound like any of them specifically (in a good way). The highlights of the album are the opening tracks, Ankle injuries and Collarbone, but overall it is a solid album that i definitely recommend. Get it when it comes out on January 23.
