complete or completing

So i had made plans to catch a few shows during CMJ, but you see, last wednesday something bigger, more amazing, and completely unexpected happened. Something that basically distracted me from pretty much anything else going on in the world for a few days. I won't get into details here, because it's not the place, but if you know me and haven't heard the news yet, let's just say that i'll soon be starting to plan my most important (personal) event to date... very exciting.

Back to business. I did manage to catch The Postmarks, who have only played a handful of shows before coming up to new york from florida. Considering they didn't perform at the best venue in the city (Mo Pitkins), they sounded pretty good and confident, and showed the enormous potential of the lovely material. I really like this band, and highly recommend anyone to catch them live or get the album when it comes out early next year.

On monday, i also caught Annuals and Voxtrot at the Bowery. It was my first Annuals show after hearing great things from friends who are working with the band. I managed to listen to the album beforehand and thought that i would definitely like them. And i did. The band is basically comprised of a lot of people, a lot of intruments, a full sound with catchy hooks and a bit of jamming (at least live). I have to say there are some songs of theirs (particularly Complete or completing) during which the singer's vocal style reminds me so much of Ed Harcourt's voice. Both also write piano-based melodies, so that probably makes the comparison even stronger.

Then Voxtrot took the stage, and played the best show i've seen them play thus far. The band's stage enthusiam never fails to really make the show going experience that much more enjoyable. Not to mention that i really like everything the band has put out to date, so seeing them live only reinforces those feelings. Someone at the show pointed out that it's quite impressive that Voxtrot played two practically sold out shows at Bowery without an album out. It is indeed, good for them. Here is a song that was one of the favorites of the night, and that actually ends this whole entry perfectly...
