wouldn't it be nice
I could not agree more with Pitchfork for their choice of #1 song of the 1960's. God only knows is a perfect, beautiful and timeless tune. In fact, the whole list is quite good. I'm surprised there weren't more Gainsbourg songs (Je t'aime... moi non plus didn't make it, although it also was never released in the US if that was a criterium) and only one Francoise Hardy tune, but lots of Zombies, girl groups, Beatles, and more.
Tonight, you can find me spin a good selection of records (which may in fact include The Beach Boys) at Lotus downstairs for the LOADED party. I was also just told that NY1 is bringing a crew to cover the party, so if you've always dreamed of being featured on the local channel, tonight's your chance! I'll be DJing from 1 to 4am, just say Melody Nelson at the door. Lotus is on 14th St between 9th and 10th Avenue.
If tonight doesn't work for you, come to TISWAS 2.0 @ The Annex tomorrow night, where i will be downstairs all night playing all sorts of foreign and domestic tunes. There are two bands playing upstairs as well, you can find all the details here. The Annex is located at 152 Orchard between Stanton and Rivington St.

Tonight, come party with eamon and myself at Calling All Kids @ Sapphire. We have a $3 PBR special all night and music to blow your mind. The party starts at 10pm, and there's no cover.
Apart from the song Heartbeats from an earlier album, i had only heard several 12" remixes of The Knife (i even used one of their remixes for my 2005 Atomique mixed CD). That is until i started listening repeatedly to Silent Shout, the band's new release. The album is so twisted, haunting and unpredictable (particularly lyrically), and i really love it. It reminds me of a distant cousin of Aphex Twin, dark electro songs with a bit more structure and melody. Truth be told, i have a much harder time getting into albums these days, you know, listening from beginning to end without getting bored or restless. However, this record is proof that i can still be captivated by a full length from start to finish.
