types of wood

I'm super excited for Nouvelle Vague's new release Bande à Part, i had been craving new covers of theirs for quite some time. Thankfully upon first listen of the new record, i can firmly say that Nouvelle Vague did not disappoint at all. Some of the songs are beautiful renditions of the classics - Echo and The Bunnymen's Killing Moon and Let me go off of Heaven 17's The Luxury Gap are wonderful - but the best part is the overall track list which mixes a great selection of obvious and not so obvious tracks that will entice the unfamiliar listeners to find out about the originals. Listen to a few of the new tracks here, and get the album when it comes out in the US on august 22nd.

Nouvelle Vague.

The surprise for me this week was hearing this new song from Whirlwind Heat. I saw these kids live quite a few times back when they first came around, and i always loved their spastic and energetic live shows, even if the songs were at times a little too over the place for my taste. This new single though is a lot more mellow and structured, and definitely reminiscent of Beck. I like it a lot. The new album Types of Wood is out now, and with a tour supporting Be Your Own Pet, the band will hit new york at the Knitting Factory on june 12th. Enjoy the track:
