cut across the land
Tonight, Benzos will be playing at the Bowery Ballroom with The Duke Spirit and Nine Black Alps. I'm not too familiar with NBA, but i really like The Duke Spirit, whose single Cut Across the Land has been part of my set lists for about a year now (came out in the UK late 2004). Their debut album of the same name is now out in the US on Star Time International, and is highly recommended.
Best news of the week is that Phoenix is doing a mini-tour, stopping by new york at the Bowery Ballroom on may 10th. Phoenix are hands down one of the best live acts around. They have a new album called It's Never Been Like That out in the US on may 23rd. Here are the few tour dates:
Sun Apr 30: Indio, CA @ Coachella Festival
Tue May 2: San Francisco, CA @ Bimbos
Sat May 6: Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club
Sun May 7: Philadelphia, PA @ Northstar
Mon May 8: Cambridge, MA @ TT The Bears
Wed May 10: New York, NY @ The Bowery Ballroom

I'm just starting to get into Mates of State, whose video for Fraud In The 80's is really cool. The song is great as well, can't wait to hear the rest of the album.
Mates of States :: Fraud in the 80's [video QT]

I'm re-posting this beautiful record cover that Sean McCabe shot and designed.
One last note, last night i deejayed the official after-party for the EDITORS show at Webster Hall. The party was loads of fun and the people in attendace were lovely. I heard that Damon Albarn walked in Black & White as i was playing Gorillaz. In good DJ etiquette, after i noticed his presence (and he stayed until the very end), i did restrain myself from playing any Blur, but it did cross my mind to throw in some Elastica...

sous le soleil exactement
I'm back from a much needed sea and sun vacation, and i owe everyone a big update! I'm still catching up on shows and new music. The latter has been a little difficult considering that i've been trying to resuscitate my sick one year old iPod for the past few days. Not fun!
This week seems to be all about stellastarr* and Editors, playing separately and together. I saw stellastarr* last night at Bowery and will have a review shortly. Next week will be all about Art Brut, who i absolutely love (i know, 10 months after everyone!). They're playing two nights in nyc next week, and their debut album Bang Bang Rock And Roll will see a US release on may 23rd with some bonus tracks on it. Expect to hear a lot more about these guys here.
Also, just got the word that Morningwood's video for Nth Degree will be on TRL today, which, no matter what you think of the TV show, is quite impressive for the new york band and their ever-growing success. Not to mention, they have a killer video to show off to the MTV viewers. Check out the band talk about the video on Fuse.
I'll be back in the DJ booth at Calling All Kids at Sapphire tomorrow night, can't wait! And get ready to hear a lot about our big LE ONE NIGHT STAND presents J'AIME SERGE Special Tribute Night taking place next thursday april 6th at Hiro Ballroom!
