i love this party!

CALLING ALL KIDS is back tonight at Sapphire! Drinks specials will be in order, as well as a birthday celebration for our friend Hoops! Last week i caught myself telling eamon "i love this party" about 10 times over the night... and that was before i read what Papermag wrote in their weekly newsletter:

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 25
A beautiful Parisian (Melody Nelson) and an Irishman (Eamon Harkin) team up to throw the night's biggest new party (Calling All Kids) in the lovely and ethnically diverse Lower East Side. Ah, only in New York. Well, actually that's not true. C.A.K. is an ambitious trans-Atlantic endeavor with a sister party in England. If you're feeling real adventurous after the Sapphire shebang, jump on a Thursday morning jet bound for Great Britain. It gets a wee bit complicated with the time change, but we're pretty sure you can make it in time for the second round of C.A.K. at Catch on Kingsland Road Shoreditch. Finding the place is up to you. Sapphire, 249 Eldridge St.,(212) 777-5153. 10 p.m. Free.

Another event you should definitely attend is the all-day Indie Night School as part of the Plug Awards on february 2nd. INS is a series of panels on the different aspect of the music industry. If you're in a relatively new band, it's a great way to find out more about the biz and meet key people who work in music. I participated in the first INS and very much enjoyed meeting everyone and giving my two cents on things. This upcoming INS a a special all-day crash course version, check the INS blog

that stupid ache

I just watched what is now my new favorite Fiona Apple video. It looks low budget and rather simple, but Zach Galifianakis is just so hilarious in it. He and Fiona give a whole new spin to the song, i love it... Watch the video for Not about love here. Also her album got nominated for a grammy, that's pretty cool i guess?

Zach tells us that this is not about love...

blood

You can read about the whole saturday night saga on NME.com... honestly, after all the changes and confusion and what could have turned into a major distaster, the night ended up being really fun. I was supposed to DJ at Rothko before Editors went on, but the DJ booth couldn't be set up for some reason. Instead, i took my records home, went back to the venue and just enjoyed the show. Though Editors did not blow me away, i thought their short set was quite enjoyable. If anything, seeing them live furthered any resemblance to sounding like Interpol i previously had in mind, which is a good thing. And frankly, i was impressed with Tom Smith's vocals and stage presence. I just don't quite understand the frenzy surrounding them. The afterparty was awesome, if only to see Peter Hook have a great time dancing to his own songs behind the DJ booth. Towards the end of the night, Hooky decided to play a best of New Order set, where he just played one NO song after another. At some point, i went up to him and said that he should really play some New Order, because we hadn't heard any yet. He actually found that funny, and we started playing a game of me guessing what NO song was coming up next... and i never guessed right, shame on me! I think we counted that he played about 12 in a row? If anyone can pull this off, Peter Hook can. Check out Laura's photos and review, the girl was practically on stage during the show, snapping shots like a real paparazzo.
