the scene is dead

The inaugural night of CALLING ALL KIDS on wednesday was amazing! Thanks to all who attended, and please do keep coming people, it is a weekly party that is only going to get more awesome every time!

Tonight, a little last minute gig. I will be deejaying in the flower room at LOTUS for the weekly GBH party. I'll be on from 1 to 4am playing all sorts of meat packing district approved songs. If you say my name at the door, you get in for free! Lotus is located 409 W14th St. beween 9th & 10th Aves.

In other news, Brooklyvegan wrote a little interesting post about next's week debut release of two new york bands (both on majors)... Morningwood and We Are Scientists. Though i love both bands, i always thought that, musically speaking, Morningwood had more of a mass/commercial appeal. But what do i know? It's actually very exciting again to see new york bands getting major debut releases. Maybe the scene isn't so dead after all... Personally, i hope both bands end up doing well, they both deserve to. One thing MW and WAS share that i really like is a great careless attitude filled with humor. Musicians and music fans can get so serious sometimes that they become completely unappealing. Not these two acts. Another thing they have in common are awesome music videos! Although, the video for Nth Degree is still the best of them all... watch it here:

Morningwood will be playing the Bowery Ballroom on wednesday january 11th. We Are Scientists are playing the same venue on thursday.

xxxmas booty

Indie-pop masters PAS/CAL are an awesome band for more than one reason... last year they recorded a cover of Last Christmas, this year a XXXmas booty song á la Peaches!! I heard that three years ago, they did a rendition of Christmas in Hollis called Christmas in Detroit! Seriously, we need more bands with a real sense of humor! Enjoy the booty song (best part: "i don't want to wait...").

party time

Tonight is the opening night of of my new party CALLING ALL KIDS! I urge all you new yorkers to stop by Sapphire Lounge to dance to our fine mix of music. There's no cover, no rsvp, just a big disco ball and a great time. Party starts at 10pm, Sapphire is on Eldridge st. between Houston and Stanton st.

Another party heads up, TISWAS 2.0 is relaunching next week at new venue The Annex. On saturday january 21st, i'll be in the downstairs room at Tiswas spinning a mix of 60's french pop and international indie rock amongst other things. Perhaps even more exciting, that night Peter Hook will be guest djing upstairs and Editors will be performing live. To say that the night will be off the hook (no pun intended) is an understatement. I'd recommend you get your tickets here right now!
