after-hours
In what i think is one of the biggest coups in the party life, MisShapes is moving to Don Hill's starting this week! It's gonna feel like 2001 all over again, except better! The special guest DJs are quite hot too...
For those who hate going home at 4am and would love to find a cool place to go to and hang out until the sun comes up, GBH is throwing a new saturday night After-Hours party, european style! Doors open at 4am, music will be pumping and you'll get to hang out with your friends and favorite guest DJs until 8am... I'll be spinning at the first After-Hours this saturday december 10th, from 4 to 6am - Michael T. will be on right after me from 6-8am. Make sure to email this address to find out the location and details: afterhours270@hotmail.com
Come say hi and bring me lots of red bull!!

imagine
Maybe not so much of a coincidence, i've watched Imagine a few times in recent days, and been listening to Double Fantasy a lot. I also scored some great original Beatles records not long ago. So today, it's only appropriate that i post a photo of one of the most beautiful cover albums in tribute to John Lennon.

out of control
I have to so much to report, but i'll have to do it a little at a time! Let me start by thanking everyone who came to VICIOUS on tuesday night, it was such a madhouse, but the bands were all fantastic. I'll write more about it all in a another post.
I'm really tired today so bear with me if i make no sense. On tuesday, i stopped by SPINHouse Live to check out LA band She Wants Revenge. I've been really undecided about this band. It started off when i received an mp3 for the song Out of Control. They sounded like everything i like (Bauhaus, Joy Division, Human League, etc...), but it sorta felt 1) repetitive 2) too late to arrive in the derivative sound wave. After getting a couple of 12" and finally the album, i started warming up to the band. The album is actually a lot more eclectic than the singles, and the rest of the songs are generally less monotonous and more interesting. But i was still unconvinced and i wanted to see them live to figure them out. So i did and i'm glad because they were much much better than expected. They played 6 songs including the very hit-like Tear you apart. The band was sitting down during the show, which was definitely unusual for the singer who was dying to rock out and get down to what he called his "disco" songs. And can i just say, i'm kinda happy they're not 18 year old kids (no offense to anyone), but for some reason seeing people in a band who may actually know their musical references is refreshing. In any case, i heard their mercury lounge show that night was great, i'm sure they'll be back on tour soon so you can judge for yourself.
Keep this link for a soon-to-be posted streaming video from their Spin performance.

the great escape
At the last minute, i ended spinning twice over the weekend. Friday night at Fat Baby was actually really fun despite the cops and the doors being closed to tons of people for a while. So i deejayed for a small crowd at first while everyone was outside trying to get in, but still had a great time - thanks to Loose Record and SESAC for having me! On saturday night, i was helping run MiSshapes since the kids were partying in miami, and i got to spin a little as well, but the rest of the time i just hung out with guest DJs Josh Madden and Franki Chan in the booth... they both just set the place on fire, it was incredible. Franki mixed the greatest and weirdest shit but it totally worked. The best part about MisShapes is watching how everyone just has the best time there.
Some may have noticed this weekend while i was spinning that i'm developing a mild obsession for The Great Escape by We Are Scientists. When i hear the song, it's as if i just got an injection of red bull straight into my arm... ah, the little tunes that make you happy in life. Actually, the whole album due out in januray is really starting to grow on me, i'll post more about it very soon.
