gran turismo
TONIGHT, Andy, Amylu, Sheila and myself are throwing another Le One Night Stand party at Bar 13, a scandi-pop and rock special one! Very exciting, though, i have to admit that my set will probably be the lightest in scandi-pop, as i will leave the other DJs show off their expertise in the genre. It will make for a great mix.
There's no cover to get in, we have a Svedka open bar from 10-11pm, our lovely go-go dancers to make your heads spin and tons of scandinavian giveaways including albums personally signed by Annie, and goodies from The Shout Out Louds, Surferosa, The Knife, Tiger Baby, Mew, Datarock and Mando Diao!
Fiona Sand (from Norway) will be our special guest DJ, as will be our always special guest DJs Josh Styles and Peppermintwist.
Party starts at 10pm, so come on out so we can show you how scandinavians do it better (well, almost as good as the french)!

O' sailor
Big shout out to Ultra, Karen and the MisShapes for winning some paper mag nightlife awards! Very proud of them all. If i wasn't bedridden with the worst tonsilitis from hell that night, i would have been at the event cheering my peeps, but i had to miss the fun. Thanks to my number one drug of choice (antibiotics that is), i can now go back to my regular music/party schedule.
Tonight, join the GBH crew and myself for our Cheeky B*stard party at Guest House. The Itchy Revolutions (a.k.a. Glen Brady of The Glass & Terry Casey) will be our guest DJs, and as always, we'll have a vodka open bar from 10-11 and other drink specials all night. The Party starts at 10pm (i'll be on at that time), just tell Thomas or Eddie at the door that you're on the "Melody Nelson guest list" and you'll get in for free! Guest House is located at at 542 W27th St between 10th & 11th.
Lastly, the Fiona Apple video for O' Sailor is now online at MTV.com, but that site hates MAC users, therefore i hate them... I hear the Floria Sigismondi directed video, in which Fiona plays a ghost, is actually quite amazing, so someone please saves it in another format and sends it to me, thanks.

we have sound
I was so busy going to shows almost every night of last week (how old school of me!) that i didn't even post about the Spoon afterparty i deejayed on saturday night at Movida... oh well, it was really fun, next time i won't forget to let everyone know.
On Friday night i saw Tom Vek at the Knitting Factory. In all honesty, i don't love the album that much, but i do love every single remix i've heard, so what does that say? That to me Tom Vek should only be a remixed dancefloor act? Maybe. In any case, Tom and the band were quite endearing live so i did enjoy the performance. One thing i was happy about was getting there early enough to finally see The Mobius Band play, who were excellent and whose beats-meet-guitars EP and album i highly recommend.
On a final note, i dusted off some CDs out of the blue this weekend and listened to Radiohead's The Bends (which for some odd reason is not on the ipod). I hadn't listened to it in years but realized that it is still the best Radiohead album to date.
