Last night's Saints and Lovers show at The Delancey was so very good. I've never cared for that venue before, but i'm starting to really like it. The sound was impressive, the band was really into it and though the crowd was a little stiff, there was a great energy in there. SOFT gave a solid performance and much improved since the last time i saw them, but for some reason they always play really short sets. They're playing again at The Delancey in two weeks, they'll be in the UK next week.
Here's their new single:
SOFT :: Droppin' [mp3]

Hard times are in fashion
You know when you get a new CD and look at the cover, and just from the cover you expect something and then you listen to the album and it sounds completely different than what you thought... yesterday, i put Koufax's new album Hard times are in fashion (out today) on and that's exactly what happened. I had never heard of the band before so i don't know what i expected, but it wasn't what came out of the speakers. And it actually sounded really great, kinda like Spoon fronted by Robert Smith. I still know nothing about this band, except that i like it, and they're playing at the Knitting Factory on august 30th. Here's a song:
Koufax :: Why bother at all [mp3]

collisions
Though i don't have the album yet, i heard the new Calla album while having a conversation at a bar. I got distracted more than once and couldn't help but stop the conversation so that i could hear the songs... on very first impression, it sounds amazing, especially if you're a fan of Televise. You'll hear more about it once i get a proper copy. Collisions will be out on Beggars on september 27th.
Tonight, i DJed at Cinema Classics/Rififi right before Arthur Kremer's play SPECTER. Arthur directed the 45 minutes play, which i greatly enjoyed and recommend. Tomorrow's your last chance to catch it at Cinema Classics, i'll be spinning at 7:30pm, the play starts a half hour later and is $10.
Also, this wednesday... OFFICIAL DEVO AFTERPARTY @ ATOMIQUE!!
