country life

Check out this Gothamist interview with Ultragrrrl, it's really great! Sarah's doing some really cool things these days, i love the girl. You should definitely go to her label showcase tonight at Rothko. By the way, a fun fact, her best celebrity encounter story took place at Lit on a night i was DJing upstairs.

Also, tonight, whatever your plans are, you know where to end up, right? ATOMIQUE @ Lit (downstairs) of course! Eamon and i will be there from 11:30pm to 4am (no cover!), spinning the latest and just about the best rock, new wave, indie, shoegaze, britpop, electro, 80s, and 60s pop too. Lately, the end of nights have been all about The Beach Boys, The Ronettes, Dusty Springfield, etc... a sweet way to end a long night.

Since i didn't see any of the footage on TV, i finally just got around to watching some of the Live 8 performances online. Why are vocals always too loud on those big production broadcasts? It kinda ruins the songs. I thought Richard Ashcroft sounded great though. I love how they scheduled Placebo and Muse to play in Paris in order to get the big crowds, because in case you don't know, the french looove these two bands... they're probably more popular there than in any other country in the world! I don't know why that amuses me, i'm afraid one day these bands will become another Jerry Lee Lewis joke...
So here's one of my favorite clips from Live 8, because i'm a big fan of the band and because this song is a regular in my sets: Roxy Music :; Love is the drug [QT]

Speaking of Roxy Music, i can not for the life of me find the Country Life record with the girls on the cover. Granted i haven't done too much searching online, but none of the regular stores i go ever gets it, and i've never had problems finding every other Roxy Music album. Instead, i have the kid version of the record with nothing but the tree on the cover (which i guess came out after the first version was banned)... vinyl junkies everywhere, tell me where i can get the real thing!

That's the cover i have...

That's the cover i need...

july week of death

I took it very easy this weekend because this week is packed with lots of great shows and parties leading to the Siren Festival on saturday.

Tomorrow night, i'm presenting a show at Rothko with all out of town bands who sound very promising, here's the line up:
11pm - The Juliet Dagger
10pm - The Yards
9pm - Adberbat

$10 :: 21+ :: Check out the VICIOUS site for more info on the bands.
Rothko :: 116 Suffolk @ Rivington St.

Wednesday is ATOMIQUE @ Lit, and thursday Le One Night Stand at Happy Ending to celebrate Bastille Day! We'll be giving away Keren Ann's albums (Nolita and Not Going Anywhere). This time around, we're adding a more international flavor with our DJs playing Japanese pop and spanish rock. I'll be throwing all the french pop favorites as always!
