time to party
With the long weekend and summer coming up, the parties are getting some press... In the new (music) issue of NYLON (Kelly O. cover), there's a full page article dedicated to The MisShapes, accompanied by two georgous photos of the trio. In the article, they reveal that a compilation CD is in the works. Big sister here is very proud!
Motherfucker, the queen of all rock parties, is celebrating its 5th anniversary this sunday might at The Roxy. Since i first started going to MF about 3 years ago, i've always have a crazy good time. I'm going out of town on sunday, so i will be a no-show at this one, but you should attend if only to hear Justine spin some old school NIN. Read this Village Voice interview with the founders of Motherfucker (via brooklynvegan).
If you're looking to get your party on a little earlier, you should join me at the following joints...
TONIGHT: ATOMIQUE @ Lit (downstairs)! Every week, Eamon and i spin everything from Soft Cell to Alter Ego to The Rapture to PiL... we have a blast and we love to see you all dance your little hearts out. There's no cover after 11:30pm, and the party goes on until 4am!
FRIDAY: It's Lio's birthday bash at Crashin'in @ Supreme Trading in williamsburg! I'll be deejaying at 11pm, and will be followed by a bunch of great DJs. The space is very cool and the party incredibly fun. Plus it's friday night before a long weekend, so should be quite insane.
SATURDAY: It's all about JELLY NYC! JELLY is a new-ish monhtly party at Southpaw that's making LOTS of noise. It starts at 11pm and is only $5! The Cloud Room will play a special late night show at 1am, while Kool Kear and myself will spin the night away. Expect lots of giveaways and drink specials to keep you going until the wee hours of the morning!

at home he's a tourist
To say that last week was busy is an understatement, here's a little monday summary.
Vicious was a blast. The Changes from Chicago were pure energy and fun. There's a lot of buzz around these guys, you'll be seeing the name a lot more i'm sure. Local quartet Looker was super tight, probably the tightest and strongest i've seen them. I love a band whose songs have the power to stick with me for days, and Looker's songs do that to me. This tune is the perfect example:
Looker -Tickle my spine [mp3]
Right after Vicious, i went to Hiro where the GBH crew and i planned an afterparty for Kasabian's second Bowery show. The entire night was just awesome... great vibe, happy people (and band), great DJ sets, crowded room. I'm glad i could be a part of it.
The highlight of the week was seeing Gang of Four at Irving Plaza on wednesday. Plain and simple, they are amazing, still 25+ years later. Obviously, i never saw them back in the day, but seeing them now makes me wish i was around when all the pioneers of the so called post-punk movement came around. I've heard more than one person say that after seeing Gang of Four live, exuding the same untouched punk attitude they did in their early years, it makes you re-evaluate young bands around, it's inevitable. All i hope is that Go4 get back on tour soon. The downside of seeing them at irving was being so far from the band. Next time, i'll have to get there early.
The after-party planned at ATOMIQUE took place after 3am when the band showed up! By that time, after 3 shows in two nights and non-stop partying, Andy Gill was in no state to DJ, which we totally understood. Let's hope for another time.
Both thursday and friday, my plans completely changed. I didn't end up going to see Fischerspooner / Morningwood at the canal room (i slept instead!), and to my regret, i had to miss stellastarr* at the bowery. I saw them the week before, and was really looking forward to the bowery show... but shit happens and i had to be at Lit earlier than planned. With that said, Aktion at Lit was so much fun. For five hours, i played tons of great stuff and made people dance like there was no tomorrow. The best moment of the night was witnessing the response to Morningwood's The nth degree, because it made everyone go nuts when i bet no one had ever heard the song before. This is definitely going to be my party jam of the summer, expect to hear it out a lot.
