Do you want to go see The Blue Van / Robbers on High Street / Hot Hot Heat for FREE tonight at Webster Hall?? If so, ENTER THE CONTEST HERE! It will end sometimes this afternoon.
If you're not going to Webster Hall, i hope you'll check out the first NY2LON show/party tonight at Bowery Ballroom, which features 4 great bands and hot british DJs, The Queens of Noize. The headlining band is The Ligers, also known as stellastarr* to some. I saw The Ligers play a warm up show last week at the Luna Lounge, where they showcased their entire new album (coming out in august). Expectations were high, but all vastly exceeded. The new material is a definite departure for the band, less immediate, more substantial and a bit darker, the new album is gonna be a real treat. I'll be talking about it more in the next few days... meanwhile, if you're itching to hear the new songs, go to the bowery tonight!
After the show, join me at Lit (upstairs) for my monthly guest appearance at the party Aktion, i'll be there til 4am!!
Lastly, you all need to vote for my shoe!! Huh? what?
Here's the deal, i was asked to participate in a NIKE ID shoe design blogger contest, so i did! For some reason, i could only choose this particular Nike style (i wanted a different one!) but only this one came up for me, so i tried to make it look as cool as possible. GO VOTE, once everyday until it's over (i think in a week or two)! If i win, i'll get you a pair of free Nike!

CLICK HERE to see all the details about tonight's party (flyer was too big to fit here!)!! If you were at the last Kasabian after-party i threw (at bar 11), you know the sorts of insanity and fun to expect.
Speaking of Kasabian, i saw them play last night for the time at long last. Verdict? I was honestly impressed with the gig. When you listen to the album, it's not hard to tell that their big and intense sound would translate well onstage. I thought the rhythm section owned the stage sonically, but it was the lead singer and guitarist who owned it presence-wise. Sure, they look like they have the cockiness of Oasis (though i found them particularly kind and thankful last night), and the main singer sounds so much like Richard Ashcroft, but they really know how to put on a good powerful show. The audience went crazy for Reason is Treason, and for the awaited Club Foot that was played last during the encore.

open season
Tales of an eventful weekend...
After stopping by to see eugene play a lovely acoustic set on friday night, i decided it was finally time for me to attend an entire show by local band The Five O'clock Heroes. So i went over to a pretty crowded Rothko and absolutely loved their performance. I kept hearing from other people how much these guys have improved over the months. To me, they just looked like four guys who know exactly what they're doing and who they are, something a lot of young bands struggle with. Without having heard one single song, they were able to absorb me right into their music, which gave me a very familiar feeling (not in a rip off way at all). What stood out the most to me was the strength of the songs and their obvious catchiness. There's definitely something special going on there, mark them as one of my recommendations to you.
After The Heroes show, i went to The Tarts of Pleasure's Stolen Transmission party and had the best time ever. The party reminded me of Tiswas circa 2002, just a great mix of people in a divy kinda club, dancing to anything the girls were playing.
On saturday, i headed to the Bowery to catch Feist and British Sea Power. I was completely unfamiliar with Feist's album, but loved her voice and some of her songs. I wish i had been more in the mood for her set though. With that said, i'd like to go see her again after hearing the album.
British Sea Power is a band who never fails to put on an amazing show. In the past, their gigs have involved foliage and hunting costumes, this time around the stage antics were toned down to just two stuffed birds, but the performance was absolutely on point. There's something they do live that i don't think comes across on the records. I can't really pintpoint what it is, but they are one of the strongest current live bands. And not just live, since they have definitely proved that they musically far surpass a lot of their english peers. And every time i see them play, i can't help but think of how much the main singer sounds like Richard Butler, so uncanny.
Right now, i'm listening to Morningwood's upcoming debut album, and all i can say is... HOLY SHIT! I'll say more after i go see them open for Fischerspooner on thursday night.
p.s. still working on fixing the comments.
