glass souls
The week is over and i can't really think straight right now, but let's try this...
I had a really good Rothko show on tuesday, though they all sounded completely different, i truly enjoyed the four bands. Listen to this song from Dutch Kills who played a great set:
Dutch Kills :: She's a star [MP3]
The listening party for the new Benzos album was really fun, tons of people showed up and anxiously waited for the album to start. I felt so proud of the whole Benzos crew. I know only more great things are in store for them in the future. The album comes out next week, but don't forget i'll remind you. Listen to this track off the record:
Benzos :: Glass Souls [MP3]
Deejaying two (or more) nights in a row (and going to work the next day) is never really good for my brain coherence and dark circles, but both gigs, Atomique and Dirty Down, were so great. Atomique is really taking off, seeing the same faces every week and people dancing until the very end of the night. It's very rewarding to see the crowds enjoy your events. No matter how dead tired i am before going to spin, once i'm behind the turntables getting ready to play my first song, i completely come back to life, i don't even need to red bull myself anymore. On another note, i should really start keeping track of my set list.
So next week will be a good week of death for me. I have a show to attend every night of the week, and three parties to DJ at, each time right after the shows. It's all really fun stuff though, so i'll make sure to report on time. Probably my most anticipated show of the week is Gang of Four at Irving Plaza. Check out this interview the band recently did for Rolling Stone (via brooklynvegan).
Before you go off to your weekend activities, i have one new-ish band recommendation, from (guess where) Sheffield (UK), called The Long Blondes. Mike G. was the first one to mention them to me, so i bought a split 7" they did with The Boyfriends, but the song i really want is the one Greg recently played for me called Giddy Stratospheres. It reminded of a combo of sounds that include The Pretenders. If you find the song, send it to me please. And by the way, The Long Blondes will be making their nyc live debut in june at the Tribeca Grand for the Fixed party.
