Daft Punk is playing at my house...
New LCD Soundsystem web site with new video for their upcoming single Daft Punk is playing at my house. Love the song, love the video. Speaking of Daft Punk, some tracks from the new album are floating around, everyone's linking, and since i can't keep up with the blogosphere, just look for them. I really can't wait for the album to come out.
Last night, Husky G. spun LCD soundsystem at ATOMIQUE and some weirdo song at the end that i never want to hear again. Other than that, he did an awesome job! Ian Brown's new album isn't bad at all. So we had another great night last night with tons of fun party goers (especially the ones from Manchester!). Thank you, thank you.
I've somewhat become addicted to this Autolux song Here Comes Everybody [mp3]. That "let's go, let's go" part does not want to leave my little tired head.
You should read Tony Flecther's interview with Matt from The Fiery Furnaces about the impact and influence of Pete Townshend on the young musician. The interview/article will also appear in Q Magazine (in an edited form).
Jason PSNYC has got to be fucking with everyone here, but if The Smiths are indeed reuniting at Coachella this year, then, i have no choice but be there despite the fact that i'm not planning on going this year.

spinART benefit
Tickets are now onsale for the Vicious benefit show at Rothko on tuesday january 25th for Sarah Flynn of spinART Records. Before you buy tickets, you should know where your money's going and why this is a great cause. From the president of spinART Records:
"One of spinART's employees has fallen seriously ill - she has been in the hospital for approx. 7 weeks. Her current treatment has the doctor's encouraged that their diagnosis of Wegener's Disease was correct. We are glad to get this good news, but she is far from being out of danger, and this will affect the rest of her life. Thankfully spinART has health care and the majority of her hospital costs will be covered, but the costs for her parents to stay in NY as well as her recovery time will be expensive."
The benefit has been set up to raise money to help Sarah and her family while they go through this difficult time. The bands on the lineup are some of her favorites:
:: Ted Leo
:: Benzos
:: The Head Set
:: Apollo Sunshine
:: Chinese Stars
Guest DJ: James Murphy
The show costs $15 (advanced tickets), $20 the day of the show.

i predict a riot
If like me you missed Kaiser Chiefs this past weekend, they'll be coming back to play northsix on february 12, and the mercury lounge on february 14. Probably even more exciting, Lansing-Dreiden will be playing the mercury on the 17th of february (via The Wicked)... now remember this is a band who never plays out, so this should be quite the show.
A lot of people have been asking me about the benefit show that Jasper and i are hosting next tuesday (1/25), and rightly so, the lineup with Ted Leo headlining is fantastic (i'd like to take credit for it, but this one is all Jasper's booking magic). The word is that advanced tickets will go onsale sometimes today. I'll post again when they go onsale or you can keep checking either the Rothko or ticketweb sites.
Longtime local favorites The Fever are playing this saturday at the Bowery, they're a band who always put on great shows, i highly recommend you get your tickets now before the show sells out.
I accidentally caught Interpol on Letterman last night, and all i have to say is those TV shows really don't do bands any justice.

lost in the plot
Seeing The Dears at the mercury on saturday was good, especially at the beginning (song 2 or 3 - i can't remember - was pretty mind-blowing)... but they kinda lost me after a few songs and i had to hide in the back for the rest of the set. It also seemed to me that the Moz/Smiths comparisons are much more apparent on record than live. Benzos sounded great as always and seemed very excited about their debut album Morning Stanzas out in the spring. Despite initial technical difficulties, Saints+Lovers played a strong and impressive set, and i really liked what i heard of The Headset. Too bad the crowd was kinda sleepy (or maybe just not that into it?) throughout the night. The photos didn't come out so great, so i'll abstain.
I do have photos of last tuesday's show at Rothko and i owe a thanks to all who came to the show. Every band was remarkable in their own way.

The Fine Lines are the new favorite underage band since Surefire. More Strokes than Oasis, but still lots of potential.

The Cloud Room played what sounded like a series of hits, and to top it off, they ended with a great cover of the Pet Shop Boys. They have this song Hey Now Now that has been stuck in my head since the show.

Aarktica graced the stage with some lo-fi intricate, and mostly instrumental, tunes that made for a beautiful landscape of sounds.

The Harlem Shakes ended the night with tons of energy and loads of catchy songs. They were so captivating that the crowd made them come back for an encore.
