summer
Last night's show at The Delancey was so fantastic! I finally saw Shy Child (a band Jinners' been recommending), and very much enjoyed the stripped down dancexperimental sound from this energetic duo. Their song Summer was by far my favorite. Meanwhile, Diamond Nights rocked the stage with their catchy 70's inspired rock. If i'm allowed, only one complaint here, i couldn't see shit because their fans are all 5'11 and taller (no joke), and i'm 5'7! Still, a great time was had by all.

Diamond Nights :: The girl's attractive (mp3)
Get ready for Bloc Party in 2005 starting now...
Bloc Party :: So here we are (video)
So here we are is one of the best tracks on their upcoming debut album Silent Alarm, and now they have a great video to go with it.
Rothko's got a good show going saturday night. I recommend you stay for the special secret guests who i've mentioned (and dare i say buzzed about) here not long ago.
Tonight, french revolution at Southpaw, don't miss it!

les parisiens
Best news i heard all week was that Asobi Seksu are opening for Razorlight next thursday at the Bowery Ballroom. The news is great because they're finally playing the Bowery, nyc's best venue. They'll sound so amazing on that stage!
Ambulance Ltd is now playing at the mercury lounge tomorrow night (in place of The Giraffes who had to cancel), they're going on a UK tour after that.
For all of you Libertines fans, i have found their successors: The Parisians! Not only do they sound like The Libertines, but they also dress like them (according to Carl Barat) and both bands are close friends. The only difference is that The Parisians are well guess it, from Paris. Give it a listen, and tell me if you don't think they sound very similar.
Just a reminder that tonight there will no ATOMIQUE, but we'll be back next thursday. The other day i mentioned that i'll be at the Keren Ann / La Laque show at Southpaw on friday night... well not only will i attend the show, but i'll also be guest DeeJaying before and after the bands. How exciting!

where damage isn't already done
The first week of the year is usually pretty quiet, but there's actually a lot of good stuff going on this week in nyc. Tomorrow, A Place to Bury Strangers plays at Pianos. On thursday, there will be no ATOMIQUE (the venue is closed this week), instead go see Diamond Nights and Shy Child play the Up party at The Delancey. On friday, SOFT are playing Sin-e, The GoStation will be at Plaid, and i will most likely be at Southpaw where i will finally see french singer-songwriter Keren Ann on stage. Honorary frenchies La Laque are opening for her, so it should be a great night all around. And then if you need some late friday night dancing, Husky G. and Nora are dj-ing at Lotus, in the backroom (where Michael T. usually spins) presented by GBH.
If you haven't heard or read about this swedish band yet, you probably will soon. The Radio Dept. have an album out called Lesser Matters that has an interesting mix of sounds, a bit shoegaze, a bit ethereal, all very lush. The album is solid, though i need a few more listens to get my head around it. There are definitely a few standout tracks and lots of mp3s floating around:
The Radio Dept. :: Where damage isn't already done (mp3) (my favorite so far)
The Radio Dept. :: Why won't you talk about it (mp3)
The Radio Dept. :: Against the tide (mp3)
The Radio Dept. :: Pulling our weight (mp3)
A lot of us would like to wish ex-Joy Division guitar player and current New Order frontman Bernard Sumner a very happy birthday, turning 49 today!

pardon my freedom
The last band i saw in 2004 was !!! for their early show at the mercury lounge on thursday night. Besides having the best dance moves since the Jackson 5, !!! is all about entertaining. The music may be repetitive but is totally infectious, and the stage is full with 6 members who rotate between playing, singing, clapping and having a good time. I could only stay for 1/2 (or maybe it was 1/3 of the show) but it was plenty of fun for me.

!!! dancing their asses off in 2004.
New year's eve was spent going to parties and wandering the streets of the city!
