sad and good
The sad news around here is that local band Sea Ray is no more. They'll be playing one last show at the mercury lounge on january 21st. Jasper took some great photos of them over the months.
The good news is that hometown band Daft Punk 's releasing a new album in march! Are they Human After All??
The (sorta) sad news is that there will be no ATOMIQUE tomorrow night. It's the holidays, we all need a little break! No worries, we'll be back next week to warm you up before new year's eve.
The good news is that tonight you can go to Savvy at Pianos where Dennis Cahlo will be spinning along with hostess Nora K.
The neither sad or good news... Pitchfork's top 50 albums of the year. They also have top singles and re-issues.
The sad or good news, depending how sick you are of them, i may have a list of my own before 2005.
And on a final note, happy birthday to another hometown girl, whose first single i bought when i was 11!

In case you missed the Saints+Lovers show on saturday night at the mercury, the band posted a new track on their site: Kiss it Goodbye [mp3]
Their next show will be opening for The Dears and Benzos at the mercury lounge on january 15th.
Everyone's posting and talking about Interpol's Evil video. A while ago i was warned about the bizarreness of the video, so when i watched it, i wasn't as creeped out as i expected. My theory on it is, what a better way to have everyone, fans and non-fans, talk/post about the band and the new single, than to come up with something as unexpected as the video for Evil. Not a bad strategy to get the single attention.

never going down
Last week was a blast and i forgot to write about it!
At Atomique, Vivian played a mix of awesome and eclectic songs, and i got to play Mommy and Daddy's Confection Remix. I also spun the new Doves single, and it's fucking good! New album will be out in february/march (expect a release party at Atomique!). Great night as always.
On tuesday at Rothko, i was walking around in awe of the great lineup and vibe of the night, definitely one the best shows i've put together. Not only did each band exceed expectations, they also all fit so well together on the bill. The venue was packed with music fans eager to see what the buzz was all about. I can't say enough that you'll be hearing a lot more from all these bands in 2005. . . for now, enjoy songs and photos from tuesday's show at Rothko:
Die Romantik :: Tik Tok [mp3]
Or how to mix classical influences with the intensity of modern rock.

SOFT :: Lucky Jam [mp3]
One word... Madchester! In all its glory and greatness.

A Place to Bury Strangers :: Never Going Down [mp3]
I mean how can you go wrong with a name like that? Think loud, intense and dark. One of nyc's best.

Sonoma Aero :: Another Day [mp3]
All the british and shoegaze bands you love mixed in this nyc trio.

If you're not freezing your ass off, go check out Elefant, Prosaics and Tarantula tonight at the Bowery.
