everything is everything

The cool people running La Blogothéque across the atlantic have put together an awesome MP3 mix that you can download.

Speaking of cool french people, after two albums, Phoenix are finally making their new york (and US) live debut next week for two nights in a row, i can't wait! They're a funky-poppy version of Air, total feel good music. At Atomique i love starting the night with If i ever feel better (off of United), every time i play it, the bartender runs to the booth to ask me who it is, that's how catchy the song is. To make next week's shows even better, two favorite local bands, Inouk and Benzos, are opening both nights. The second night is already sold out, but there are still tickets for the first night, so hurry!
Watch the Phoenix video for Everything is Everything directed by Roman Coppola:
Real Player: 300 :: 100 :: 56

Another upcoming show i highly recommend is Joseph Arthur at the Bowery Ballroom in two weeks. I saw him for the first time during CMJ and i was blown away. Here are two live tracks:
Joseph Arthur :: Leave us alone [MP3]
Joseph Arthur :: Echo Park [MP3]

vertigo

When i woke up this morning, i had no idea i was going to see the "BIGGEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD" play... but one thing led to another, and soon enough, i was standing near the Brooklyn Bridge, in front a stage, waiting for my first U2 concert to start. Despite the fact that i couldn't see much (everyone had their hands up trying to take photos), and that i couldn't hear much (the PA was really low, probably because it was set up for TV), it was a fun experience seeing them in front of the Manhattan skyline. The short show made me want to attend a real U2 gig. They played through some boring new songs, but then things picked up at the end when they performed A Beautiful Day, I will follow and Out of Control. Before the show, while we were waiting in line, we got surprised by the band going over the Manhattan Bridge on a stage on wheels singing what sounded like Vertigo. Honestly, that was the most exciting part of the day.

Tomorrow night, Jasper and i are hosting our monthly VICIOUS party, with as always features awesome bands...
