red and black

If you're in williamsburg tonight, or looking for a good party to go to, come by Popfrenzy! at Red and Black where i'll be deejaying after midnight. Expect to hear lots of 80s and dancy tunes, and if you go early, there's a 241 drinks special from 10-11!

It's been a really good week for shows, as soon as i have a minute to breath, i'll post my Earlimart and Interpol reviews...

SOS

I can think of a few bands this year who had had to change their names because of legal reasons (if the name is already owned by someone else)... Death from Above 1979 is one of them, Dios Malos (used be to just Dios), and i'm sure there are a lot more. Oh yeah and The Postal Service who are in the middle settling things right now with the real US Postal Service, i find this case particularly hilarious. It also made me think of british cases like Verve who became The Verve, and Suede who are known in the US as London Suede. For some reason, it seems like lately, there have been more of these cases... well, to keep with the trend, yesterday local band The Sons of Sound received a notice from the lawyer of this place saying that the name SONS OF SOUND is trademarked and that they must "cease and desist" the use of the name... ouch, kinda sucks!
So in the next few days, the band will find a new name, new domain name, will re-print all the CDs and basically be born again. I actually proposed to them to be The Sons of Sound in french: Les Fils du Son, but that didn't go over well... how about The Sons of a Bitch??? I kinda like it! Ok not really. Anyway, when they settle on a new name, i'll post it here.

On the brigtht side, if lawyers come knocking at your door, it means that the word is spreading about the band, huh?

rothko

In case anyone wonders, the show i had planned at Rothko tonight with Sonoma Aero, A Place to Bury Strangers, The Winter Pageant and This Invitiation will NOT happen because Rothko is closed until later this week. The good news is that some of these bands will be back in december for a make-up show... stay tuned!

Also last night, HOLY ATOMIC SHIT! The Razorlight crew came to Atomique after their show with friends and fans and turned the little cozy party into a packed insane monday night. Jenny Jeanz and Karibomb spun some great shit (William Shatner's Common People!!). The party ran late, but it was so good we couldn't stop it. Again thanks to all who stop by for the fun of it.
Last night was also the last time ATOMIQUE happened on a monday, because starting next week, we're moving the party to thursdays!! Same party, same place, different day of the week, and more details of what's in store will be posted here soon. Very exciting.

Last week was really rough, after coming back from my trip, i got really sick which forced me to miss a few happenings. I'm in much better shape now and before going back to the regular musical schedule, here are a few pretty photos i took when i pretented to be a tourist in my hometown...

Mandatory stop by Serge Gainsbourg's old house at rue de Verneuil. Over the years, fans have come and wrote words of love. It's looking messier than the last time i was there. I heard his daughter Charlotte is trying to reconvert the house into a museum, that would be brilliant.

La Tour Montparnasse at sunset.

Autumn at the Parc du Luxembourg.

Full moon!
