here today, gone tomorrow
R.I.P Johnny Ramone.
I've been meaning to go see End of the century for weeks...
Thanks to everyone who came to Rothko, check out these mp3s from the great local bands who played:
The Comas :: The Science of Yer Mind
Kinetic :: Another Moon Effect
The Diggs :: Just like you said
Hey, The Morning After, you guys have a site/mp3s??
October is going to be insane show-wise. PJ Harvey at Hammerstein on october 6th, Rilo Kiley, CMJ, and Le Tigre at the end of the month is all i can remember right now.
This weekend is packed with stuff to do, notably Greg K. is spinning at Popfrenzy! on friday night. The Sons of Sound are playing at sin-é on saturday night (expect an amazing cover song) with two other favorites of mine, La Laque and The Caulfield Sisters. It's gonna be a hot show. And then of course MisShapes saturday night.

party hard
Don't forget tonight to come by ATOMIQUE! We'll be having The Faint listening party and guest DJs The Shut The Fuck Up! Party starts at 9pm and it's FREE!!
Whoever was at MisSHAPES on saturday night witnessed history... Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackey of Pulp DJ-ed an incredible set at a party named after one of their songs! As soon as they went into the DJ booth, the crowd started cheering and clapping, and all night the photo flashes never stopped. I felt bad that everyone gave Jarvis all the attention, and no one seemed to recognize Steve. The Pulp duo opened their set with Joy Division's Transmission and got everyone dancing insanely. Jarvis and especially Steve are very skilled DJs and very up to date with the latest hot tracks. They played The Cars, Soulwax, Pink Grease (which i had played earlier, but they didn't know), a really cool cover of The Strokes' Last night, and more cool music they brought with them for the occasion. I went on right after them and kept the dancefloor shaking for a bit (i swear one day Luke & Leroy's dance floor will cave in and fall apart) before Ultragrrrl and Karen Plus One took over until the end of the night. I give the Tarts of Pleasure major credit for not only playing Iggy's Lust for Life and Jet's Are you gonna be my girl back to back, but also for playing Do you remember the first time?, my favorite Pulp song, while the band was lounging downstairs... As 2/3 of the MisSHAPES hosts were Toronto for the film festival and hence had to miss their own party, i had the honor of playing host to Jarvis and Steve and had the greatest time with some of my favorite musicians.

Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackey show the MisSHAPES crowd a true Disco 2000 party time!
Also, last week i stopped by the Spin offices where Ben Kweller performed an acoustic and spontaneous set. He played a bunch of new songs, and only one Sha-Sha-era song! Nevertheless, it was a real treat seeing Ben again.
