this is hardcore
There is saturday night... and then there is monday night... your presence is required for both events.
So let's start with saturday september 11th... Jarvis Cocker... DJ-ing at... MisShapes!!! Is it a dream come true for the MisShapes crew? You bet it is! Having Jarvis DJ at a party named after one of his songs, couldn't think of anything more brilliant than that. Except for one thing, a bunch of us will be DJ-ing with him!

when i disappear
In the news, Matador has signed local band Prosaics and will release their full-length debut album in 2005.
Thanks to Peter, i am not wondering anymore who sings the ultra catchy song for the commercial of the The Real World Philadelphia... never would have i thought it was local band Morningwood's Take off your clothes, good for them!
Also, thanks to Ultragrrrl, i have now seen the most disturbing and fascinating video of the year (since Aphex Twin) for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Y-Control, directed by Spike Jonze.
Speaking of great videos, have you heard of Faithless? They're british band who is making noise with their current controversial song called Mass Destruction, very worth checking out:
Real Player: 56 || 128 || 300
WMP: 56 || 128 || 300
On saturday night, I DJ-ed for 2 1/2 hours at Rothko's new downstairs lounge, and i had such a great time. First, the downstairs at Rothko is hot, small room but really cool. Second, i think for the first time ever, i played every single record in my heavy record bag, that included Wire, Blonde Redhead, Ultravox, The Faint, Soulwax, Plastic Bertrand, The Cure, Metric, Interpol, Madonna, Revl9n, Moving Units, Radio 4, Suede, and more.
Last night, i saw stellastarr* played their last show of the year at Motherfucker at the Roxy, and was so pleasantly surprised to hear the new songs, which i thought sounded more mature but still very biting. I always say give a band some time on the road, and they usually age really well. stellastarr* proved me right as they sounded probably their best i've heard them in a long time. Last night, they also had the fervor of a band who's grown so much and is, more than ever, appreciative of the experiences they've lived through over the last year. So it was really amazing seeing them give their all to their fans... even if that meant having girls jump up on stage and dance like maniacs during Jenny!?! Probably the most hilarious moments in stellastarr*'s stage history.
Last thought of the day... Keane equals fungus. I've had their album since before its release, and only listened to it once thinking, wow this is so up Miss Modernage's alley (you know Travis style music), and put the CD right back in the pile where it belonged. And now their single Somewhere Only we Know is everywhere, and it's fucking stuck in my head. So i decided to go back to the album, and now the whole thing is fucking stuck in my head. I guess there is no escaping the fungus, because it's actually good!
