waxing incomplete

Interpol has a newly redesigned website in anticipation of their new album Antics. The band will also be on the cover of the new issue of Filter magazine.

Flash back to last week, when i saw The GoStation at the Luna Lounge, who were in top shape and sounded great! I then went to see Unisex Salon at the Delancey, a local band i've been meaning to catch from some time. They're not only super sexy, they also are totally hyper and so much fun onstage. They reminded me of The Sounds, but with way better vocals! I tried to go back to Luna to catch Morning Theft, but alas, my planning fell through miserably, a shame.

On saturday, Gerald, Dennis and myself had the upmost honor of DJ-ing Lio & Kay's wedding at Rothko... it was the most rock'n'roll wedding i have ever attended, and despite a few glitches at the beginning, the ceremony and party went perfectly. Lio had given all the DJs songs that he and his wife wanted to hear, that included everything from The Beatles, to The Animals, to Blondie, to Primal Scream, to Franz Ferdinand and The Darkness... Weddings are actually a lot of fun to spin, i got so excited to get the "older" crowd on the dance floor with some motown and old disco. I wish the newlyweds a happy life together!

Monday night, i attended a party with The Bravery, Ted Leo and The Libertines performing. It took place in a huge warehouse, which made for a great atmosphere, and was i surprised to see so many people who, like myself, did not go see The Killers that night. I was caught up in conversation in the back during The Bravery, but got a little closer for Ted Leo who was all energy and greatness. I really wanted to see the Libertines, but everything was way behind schedule and it was getting so late that i started to sleepwalk... so no Libertines for me this week.

Bands play a packed warehouse party.

On tuesday, i think it was the first time that VICIOUS had four bands that i'd actually never seen before. Jasper and i try to book bands that we both appreciate and this week was no exception. The Art of Shooting and Up the Empire are fairly new bands with tremendous potential. I finally got to see The Winter Pageant who make moody, dark and beautiful music with lots of tension and build-ups (not to mention i'm a sucker for glockenspiel!). Imagine a cross between Calla and Godspeed You Black Emperor!, that's what they reminded me of. Two Gallants also surprised me, because i ended up really enjoying their fiery live performance. They're a San Francisco folksy rock duo (guitar + drums) who can do more with just two instruments than most bands with 5 members. Check out the Pitchfork review of their new album The Throes.

Tomorrow The Sons of Sound play Pianos at 9:30pm. Then come to MisShapes where the Tarts of Pleasure will battle Death & Destruction on the decks. Also spinning The Shut the Fuck Up.

Happy belated birthday to Jocelyn!
