obvious
First off, if you're in Boston tonight, go check out Ashley's night at Great Scott's featuring Asobi Seksu, Morning Theft and Low Beam. Great bands, great host, should be a really good time.
I've been MIA, but that's good because i've been seeing a lot of shows lately. I still have Siren photos to share, that should happen any day now.
Let's backtrack... friday night, i went to the mercury lounge where i saw Madison Strays play a great show. Sometimes it's good to wait a while between performances by a new-ish band, you get to witness the growth and refinement of their sound. I admit, i was much more impressed with their music this time around! I foresee a promising future for this local band.
I obviously stayed for Moving Units, who played a very short set, but i can't complain because i've always really liked them and they don't really play over here that much. Basically, everyone says they're the west coast Rapture, and besides making the indie kids dance with their disco-punk sound, they have something a little different going on... perhaps more organic? They played some new tracks, nothing drastically different, but everything tight and very energetic. Fun band to watch too, as their drummer likes to get up and dance when he doesn't have drum duties. I really really enjoy seeing this band live, and spinning their songs as well. My question, when's their album coming out? It's long overdue.
Saturday was Siren, which i'll talk about when i put my photos up.
On Tuesday, we had our one year anniversary VICIOUS at Rothko, which was fantastic! The Twenty-Twos were on our very first Vicious bill a year ago, so it made sense to have them come back to play a fucking great set. I forgot how much i like this band! The music combined with their incredibly star-like stage presence was amazing.
The other bands were just as good, Snowden (from Atlanta) is a dark new wavish band with a couple songs that screamed 'hit' all over. Hula was on the softer melodic side, reminding of Belle & Sebastian at times. As for Demander, wow, i hadn't seen such a kick-ass band in a while! They're a drums/bass girl duo who really rocked that stage. In between bands, Michael stellastarr* was spinning a fantastic mix of tunes. Great night all around, again thanks to everyone who came and has been attending the party consistently for the past year!
I'm running out of time... is today JGo's birthday?? If so Happy Birthday Jason! Also happy belated Birthday to Vivian!
And here's an article that Rob Sheffield wrote about Franz Ferdinand (via Ijamming). I haven't read it yet, but i love Rob's pieces, so i will very soon.

sunlight makes me paranoid
I have tons of photos from the weekend, they'll be up later... in the meantime, there are still tickets available for the two shows Elefant is headlining this week at the bowery ballroom. Get them now, hometown shows are the best!
Tomorrow, we'll be hosting another VICIOUS. This one's special for 2 reasons... first, VICIOUS is one year old! And it's Johnny 22s' birthday!
