I keep hearing about Simple Kid. A few people have described him as a sort of a cross between Badly Drawn Boy and Beck. I haven't checked his album out yet, but here's his video for The Average Man - tell me what you think!

In case you haven't seen the lovely video for PJ Harvey's new single The Letter, here it is:
WMP High || WMP Low
Real Player High || Real Player Low

PJ is playing a small show at the knitting factory next week, on june 2nd. Tickets went onsale, at the box office only, today at 12pm and the show sold out by 1pm! I don't know how to show over-super-mega-excitement on this web site, but yeah, that's what i'm feeling right now.

This is so exciting, Pitchfork reports that Daft Punk have remixed Franz Ferdinand's Take me Out and are waiting for the label's approval to release it! I seriously can not wait to hear and spin this one.

Despite a few sound problems here and there, the show on tuesday was great. So was the turnout! The Big Sleep always surprises everyone with their big and captivating instrumental sound, because they are far from sleepy. Aerial Love Feed, whom i hadn't seen in a long while, played a very strong set. When you don't hear a band for a while, they sound so good and refreshing.
Asobi Seksu were amazing as always. I loved the lights too, the kind that go off as the music gets louder/faster. By the way, i just found out that John Peel played them on his radio show! That's so cool considering that he's one of the most respected radio DJs in the UK (and everywhere else i'm sure).

Over on the new band radar, there's a band that Jocelyn and Nora have been raving about called The Bravery. They even got me their EP, and it's really good! Very 80s / New Order-ish, fun music. They're playing their last residency show tonight at arlene's grocery and will be playing at the mercury lounge in june with Benzos, The Sons of Sound and Dirty on Purpose. Killer line-up!
I'm thinking of spinning one of The Bravery songs at MisShapes on saturday night, we'll see if i can squeeze it in. I'll probably be playing a lot of the same stuff i played at the Tiki Room and a few other surprises. If you're around, you should definitely come by!

red bedroom

Highlights from The Fever show at the bowery:
- The bowery ballroom was packed with familiar faces.
- The band played every song from their excellent debut album, Red Bedroom.
- During the show, Mike G. and i talked about how tight The Fever has gotten since we first saw them.
- During the show, i told myself how impossible it is to resist dancing at a Fever show.
- The crowd went nuts for Ladyfingers.
- There was no Glamorous Life, but there was Emergency Party as an encore.
- Robbers on High Street are getting greater by the minute.
- I, along a few hundred people, sat at the bar downstairs during ARE Weapons' performance, whom i heard were wondering where the "sold out" crowd was.
- I missed the overpacked afterparty due to unfortunate indigestion.

After being out of commission on saturday, i went to southpaw last night to catch The Sons of Sound, who made their last appearance as a duo only, as they will be adding a drummer to their line-up. Personally, it's been really exciting to hear songs start out as little acoustic numbers and grow into these majestically beautiful and fully arranged songs. The future of this band is now more promising than ever, and i think that a lot of people out there will be quite pleased with the full-on rock sound that the SOS are about to unleash. First show with the full band will be in june.

Tomorrow night, Asobi Seksu along with Aerial Love Feed, The Big Sleep and Valeze will be playing at Rothko, don't miss it! If you haven't seen Asobi Seksu's beautiful video for Walk on the moon, click here.

In other news, Interpol's been recording their new album, you can check out photos of the recording sessions (click on 4 - top right).
Also, "In connection with the upcoming Interpol album, Matador Records US is sponsoring a short film contest. For full details on how to enter, what to do, and what you could win, check out the Matador Records site."

Finally, if you want some fun this coming memorial day weekend, i'll be spinning at my favorite party, MisShapes, on saturday night!
