Jay Good Times freakin' knows how to throw a party!! The Loose Record listening party was so ridiculously fun. So many peeps came and went, and i had the best time spinning and listening to Jin, Dennis and Jay's sets.
There were more free drinks flowing than your body could take, which made for really funny sights to watch from the DJ booth. We also got goody bags with a bunch of CDs from bands i've never heard before, which is always a great thing.
Here's my playlist - Tiki Room 5/20/04
Lizzy Mercier Descloux - Fire
The Stills - Still in Love (12" extended mix)
!!! - Pardon my freedom
The Rapture - Olio
The Beta Band - Assessment (C-Swing bootleg remix)
Ratatat - Seventeen years
Daft Punk - Around the world
Blur - Girls and Boys
Scissor Sisters - Comfortably numb
Cat Power - Free
Siouxsie & The Banshees - Cities in dust
Franz Ferdinand - Matinee
Queen - Another one bites the dust
The Clash - Rock the casbah
Madonna - Burning up
Moving Units - Melodrama
Salt'n'Pepa - Push it
Madness - One step beyond
Le Tigre - Deceptacon
The GoGos - We got the beat
Michael Jackson - Don't stop 'till you get enough

Tonight, come see THE FEVER play at the bowery!
Saturday, go to MisShapes for the Scissor Sisters afterparty!
Sunday night, go to southpaw to see THE SONS OF SOUND play their first Brooklyn show!

I wanna take you out in your holiday sweater
Tonight, don't forget to come party at the Tiki Room for the LOOSE RECORD LISTENING party, hosted by J Good Times. There's no cover + lots of free alcohol + lots of giveaways! I'll be spinning the tunes later in the night. The fiesta starts at 10pm!

VICIOUS, the last one held at Sin-e, was one of the most eclectic nights we had musically! Again a million thank yous to those who attended.
Elkland was a lot of fun. They're a pop-synth band that reminded everyone of Erasure. I only heard a little bit of Shelby's set, but what i heard sounded pretty good, i'll probably check them out soon again. Pas/Cal was everything i expected and more! I think Jin describes them best when she mentioned that they sound like Belle and Sebastian meets The Beach Boys. They're poppy with beautiful arrangements and melodies. I highly recommend you check out both of their EPs. Soundtrak was very tight with a nice edge to their sound. I hear a bit of early U2 in them, they definitely rocked the place.
And finally, VICIOUS will be moving to Rothko starting in june.
Did anyone go see The Strokes last night? I never scored tickets, so i didn't. Instead i went to Irving to watch The Blondes, Inc. play with Richard Lloyd as part of Joey Ramones' birthday bash. They only played 2 songs but they totally ripped that stage. It was really awesome to see the marriage of legendary frontman and up and coming band.
Treat of the day:
Asobi Seksu recently shot a video for Walk on the moon, which you can watch here. I think you'll be impressed by the beauty of the video and how well it suits the song.

beats in space
My latest obsession: Tim Sweeney's WNYU radio show Beats in space. I actually have never listened to the live broadcasts, but the beauty of the internet is that you can stream or download his playlists anytime, and they are all fucking amazing! I'm still going down the list and i've listened to quite a few of them. His choice of songs (in all genres), mixes, beatmatching are all remarkable and very inspiring! He DJs a lot around town, so check him out.
Tony Fletcher who DJed at Tiswas this past saturday also really impressed me when he mixed in !!! with LCD Soundsystem and followed that with one of the Dance to the underground remixes. It was all seamless and very well done.
Also, at Tiswas, The GoStation and Surefire played for the first time together (first time right?), and both sounded tight and made their fans happy. I suggest more playing together!
Don't forget VICIOUS @ Sin-é tonight!

the slow club
This week is so full of great events, take note and come out!
Tuesday: VICIOUS @ Sin-e. This is the last VICIOUS that will be held at Sin-e, and we're ending our run there with a fantastic lineup. Sin-e has been such a great venue for us, so please continue to support the venue and go see your favorite and soon-to-be favorite bands play there.

Sin-e:: 150 Attorney St. Between Houston and Stanton St.
Wednesday: The Blondes, Inc. are playing with Richard Lloyd of Television at Irving Plaza as part of the Ramones Birthday Bash, MC-ed by Matt Pinfield. It's gonna be a blast, not mention the excitement of seeing The Blondes, Inc. part of such a great night of rock.
Thursday: I'm DJ-ing (along with Jinners and Dennis Cahlo) at THE LOOSE RECORD LISTENING PARTY! I mean, what else can i say besides FREE red stripe all night (or more precisely til it's gone!)! In addition to the DJ sets, we'll be listening to a bunch of bands' new releases, and Say Hi to Your Mom will perform a live acoustic set. This little party is thrown by none other that J Good Times, and with a moniker like that, you know what to expect!
Friday: It's all about THE FEVER! First of all, tomorrow their debut album Red Bedroom is being released and it's fantastic! If you've heard their EP, the full length is a clear indication of how much the band's been working on expanding their catchy sound. They still have that incredible ferocious energy that makes them so compelling, in addition, you'll be nicely surprised by songs like Scorpio and Diamond Days, that show a different side of the band.
On friday, The Fever are having a CD release party at the bowery ballroom for the first time, and i highly recommend you get tickets now before it gets sold out. Needless to say, The Fever always give great performances. Opening for them that night are Robbers on High Street and ARE Weapons. After-party at Rothko.

Sunday: The Day After at Pianos will be in action in the afternoon, DJs TBA. That night, THE SONS OF SOUND are playing at Southpaw in Brooklyn. It should be a great show following their successful run at Pianos.
So that's for the heads up of this week, i'll be reminding you of all these as the days approach. Lastly, i posted my last DJ set on the comments section from the last entry, enjoy!
