the last of the gang to die
I want to thank all of you who stopped by Rothko for UNISON on wednesday. Looks like everyone loved the venue, and hopefully enjoyed the music too! Rob, Dennis and Greg spun some awesome tracks. My set was fun too, i'm having a bit of Daft Punk obsession lately, it's taking me back to the late 90s when Paris was burning with great music. So there was Daft Punk. I also played the new Moz song, Franz Ferdinand's Tell her tonight, Scissor Sisters' Comfortably Numb, Pixies' Debaser and Wham! Yes, nothing better than a little Wake me up before you go-go! injection. Are any of you interested in seeing my playlists? If so, i'll start posting them.
I have to re-post this really great cover of Morrissey's Why don't you find out for yourself? by The Killers (from hushreality via Ultragrrrl).
While i'm at it, here is the video for The Killers' catchy Somebody told me:

Any fans of The Streets? If so, check out these links:

You know how awesome it is when you find out that old classmates or people you knew back in the day are doing great things and being recognized for it? Well, i just realized that none other than the man behind The Grey Album is a college radio-mate!? How insane is that? Danger Mouse was hosting the hip-hop show on WUOG, when i was host and DJ of the world music show. Except i didn't know him under the name of Danger Mouse back then, so i didn't make the connection until i saw photos of him.
Other UGA fellow classmates/graduates making noise are the two guys behind the critically acclaimed film Last Goodbye that just screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. Friends who have seen the movie say it's wonderful.
Now, Chris Ott isn't exactly an old mate of mine, but we did share quite an interesting DJ experience a while ago. Mr. Ott (whom you probably recognize from Pitchfork) has a new book out about one of the post-punk classic albums of all time: Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division. The book's getting amazing reviews, and i will certainly check it out.

On monday, i saw The Cardigans at the bowery ballroom and absolutely loved the show. I've had their new album on import for a while, and quite honestly i wasn't digging it all that much... however, the new softer songs in a live setting sounded beautiful. Nina Persson's voice is very emotive, and goddamn is she the hottest or what? Surprisingly, there were no pre-Gran Turismo songs played (yes, i really wanted to hear Love Fool, it's a great pop song!), but the tracks performed from Gran Turismo were the highlights of the night without a doubt. Hearing songs like erase and rewind, hanging around and my favorite game made me want to revisit that album so badly.

rubber ring
How great is this new cover album?

Polly Jean can not do any wrong in my eyes. I've been spinning Dress a lot lately, can't wait for the new "back to the roots" album.
Morrissey at his final Apollo show on saturday was everything you'd expect, so in one word, it was fantastic. His fans are so obsessive, i love it! I've only heard the new album twice, but after hearing the songs live, I can see how it'll grow on me really fast. I couldn't wait for them to play There is a light that never goes out (my favorite Smiths song), but what a nice surprise when they played Rubber Ring, probably my second or third favorite Smiths songs. Add to that the good old Moz songs (still no Suedehead though, why?), and the show was just amazing. The man has a great voice, and it's still very strong. Morrissey did explain that if the tickets were so expensive, it was because of all the added stage drama, wait, what, Moz a drama queen?!
Because i haven't put up links in a while.
- Watch the new PJ Harvey video for The Letter here. I love both the song and video.
- The Stills' Still in Love video [real] [wmp high] [wmp low]
- A fun Stills e-card.
- How come no one ever told there was a video for Le Tigre's Deceptacon?! I seriously have to learn this aerobicon dance.
