hands away

I know you all think that i'm quite aware (or should be) of most everything going on these days... but, uh, why didn't anyone remind me that Interpol was on Jimmy Kimmel the other night!? I heard they were great too. In case you didn't know, the band is going back on tour in the US this fall (no nyc dates announced yet) and will be releasing The Black EP, a series of songs recorded during the Black Sessions (a radio show in France), on august 11th - import only.
Oh, and go vote for them!! PDA is nominated for a MTV2 award! Pretty sure it'll go to QOTSA, but why not try?

Prefixmag interviews Karen O, part 2.

Oh my lord... stellastarr*/ Elefant/ Aerial Love Feed show at the bowery next week is SOLD OUT.

bag-of-chips

The day Coney Island became hipster nation... This year Siren's Festival was so much fucking fun! There were a lot of acts i was looking foward to seeing again. I never get tired of the good stuff. The Recap:

The Pattern: fun, yes... hyper, yes... my type, eh.
The Kills: technical problems, yes... captivating, hell yeah... sexual tension, always.
!!!: my first time, yes... crazy dance moves, yes... fun, very.
Sahara Hotnights: loud, hot, rocking... yes, yes, yes!
Hot Hot Heat: best act of the day, no doubt.
Radio 4: tight, yes... one of my favorite nyc bands, of course.
Idlewild: loudest and hardest performance of the day... not the best i've seen them, but still great.

In other news:
Has anyone else heard that The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is playing Sin-e on friday night? Yeah? So start spreading the rumor.

Do not miss The GoStation's live debut on saturday night at the knitting Factory (downstairs)! These guys will love you forever if you show up and headbang to their lovely mixture of britpop, indie and shoegaze sounds. Think about it, years from now, you'll be bragging to your friendsters about how you attended the first ever GoStation gig.

Check this out... Jasper and I are presenting a very special Vicious @ Sin-e next tuesday, july 29! It's a bit of a last minute one, but the line-up was too good not to be part of it - please pass the word, we need all of you there! Performing:
8 pm- '64 World's Fair
9 pm - Aurelio Valle of Calla
10 pm - Statistics featuring Denver Dalley
11 pm - Blake Sennett of Rilo Kiley
Celebrity Guest DJ: Mrs. Robinson of The Caulfield Sisters

The next Vicious after that will happen on tuesday august 12th, and it's going to be better than ever, you do NOT want to miss it because all these fantastic bands are playing: Nimbus, Mommy and Daddy, Blue Sparks, Ambulance Ltd, with celebrity guest DJs Air Like Fire (members of Aerial Love Feed). I told you it was hot.

glamorous life

Thursday night's mercury lounge show was one to go down in history... and not just because you witnessed me there going from melody to drunkety, but because the bill was excellent!
Luke Temple started on a mellow note, singer-songwriter style. Some of us were debating whether he looked like Damon or not, i said not.
Next, Robbers on High Street took the stage... this is where i say: new great band alert! I'd heard mp3s from these guys, but live they really showed just how great they are. Everyone says they sound like Spoon and they do, but not in an overwhelming way. Check them out, let me know what you think.
Whirwind Heat was as usual very explosive and so much fun! Even if you don't like their recordings, you gotta appreciate their perfectly entertaining performance. Any band who can dance, scream and enjoy themselves so unself-consciously gets major bonus points.
Finally, the headliner of the night played one of their best shows i have seen. The Fever is a band that slowly but surely is getting more and more attention. And they should! Everyone in town is humming to Bridge and Tunnel and Ladyfingers, so it's only a matter of time until the rest of the world will too.

Friends in L.A, monday night you have two incredible shows in town: Stellastarr*/ Longwave @ the Troubadour and Elefant @ Spaceland. I'd hit both gigs if i were you.
