vicious, you hit me with a flower

The Village voice previews Vicious @ Sin-e! Thanks to Mr/Ms Phillips!
'Vicious'
This is a hipster party. Everyone there will be thinner, prettier, and more fashionable than you or I. But who wants to hang out with ugly people anyway? There will also be live performances. El Guapo are one of the more sonically adventurous groups currently on the Dischord records roster, and the Icelandic band Vinyl rock harder than Sigur Rós, Múm and Björk’s Vespertine combined. Whoa, nelly! With the Twenty-Twos and the Hong Kong. (Phillips)

By the way, don't be put off by the description of the night, it didn't come from either Jasper or myself. Come out, it'll be fun.

So last night i was watching MTV and "You hear it first" comes on... I completely freaked when i noticed that the new hot band featured was called Whitestarr! With two Rs?? Am i the only one who thinks that's absolutely disturbing? Probably.

Happy birthday to my little bro Gregory!

vicious

Happy Canada day!

Does anyone know of any good releases in july? I couldn't find any for my new records list.

And now for some shameless self-promotion...

Ladies and gentlemen, mister Jenyk and myself are very pleased to bring you a new nyc hot night, also known as Vicious @ Sin-é. Once a month (sometimes more), always on a tuesday, we bring you our favorite bands, and some very special guest DJs. Our first night is happening next tuesday, july 8th. It's only $7... so come out, fly to new york, tell all your friends, enjoy and support good live music, and hang out with your favorite common people! Vicious's first line-up features:
8pm - Vinyl
9pm - The Hong Kong
10pm - The Twenty-twos
11pm - El Guapo
Guest DJs - The Shut The Fuck Up (members of stellastarr*)

If you're in a band (and a good one!) and are interested in playing a future Vicious @ Sin-é, give me a shout.

cigarettes and chocolate milk

A couple of my friendsters ended up on yesterday's new york post article... how do you like your new name Lewis?
Speaking of new names, yesterday, i decided to officially rename the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to what their name would be if they were a band from Paris. Please, from now on, let's all call them: les Ouai Ouai Ouais, doesn't it sound so much cooler? Who wants to make pins?

One of the best things to do in new york in the summer is attend summerstage... it's in the middle of Central Park, it has a big outdoor stage, food and booze and it's free (most of the time)! Yesterday was the celebration of Canada day (a few days early). Sarah Slean played first, she reminded me of a little bit of Sarah McLachlan and a little bit of Tori Amos. Miss Slean sings with a smokey voice and lots of sexual energy, keep an eye on her we heard she's big in the homecountry. The Dears came on next and they quite impressed me. The singer has a powerful voice, and despite being a bit long, their songs are really strong. I'm pretty sure i fell asleep during Daniel Lanois... And finally, after years of worship and impatience to see him live, Rufus Wainwright graced the stage. He opened the set with Greek Song and played songs from his upcoming album as well as a few from Poses... Poses was one of my favorite albums of 2001, so it was a major treat to hear tunes from it, even though, Rufus couldn't remember how to play a couple of them. That boy has the funniest stange banters and the cutest lisp. The new songs are incredible, i can't wait for his new record. He came back for an encore and, with his mother on the piano, played a very beautiful version of Over the Rainbow.
