39 minutes of bliss

This week, i saw Caesars one and 1/2 time. First at Sin-é, where i only caught the end of the set, and then again at Southpaw the next day. I expected all their songs to be as bouncy as their current single Jerk it out, but they're not really. Their repertoire is actually diverse, sometimes alluding to 60's garage and other times reminding me of mid-90's Oasis. They definitely puts on a good show, thanks in part to the entertaining and hyper-active guitarist... does anyone else feel he's a Pelle in training?
The Realistics headlined the Southpaw show, and as always did not disappoint. Playing songs from their upcoming album and a few of the old favorites, it was all energy, smiles and tightness. The new songs sound great and as catchy as ever. The band's recording their new album now, which should be out in the fall.

tonight, let's dance

Elefant was fantastic on friday at the mercury lounge. Probably the best i've seen them so far. Diego was in better form than i have ever seen him. The man was reaching some pretty amazing points of hallucinations towards the end. I don't know if he realizes how iconic his signature hand move is becoming during their live shows. I hope he doesn't lose it.
Unfortunately, by the time Broken Social Scene came on stage, my brain was almost dead and i could hardly stay awake... so i stayed by the bar and listened from afar. It sounded nice, but i didn't get the full effect, oh well...

Yo people! Stellastarr*'s debut album will be released in the US on september 23rd on RCA. Before then, catch them on tour with Longwave in the US, and at the bowery ballroom in nyc on august 1st. Then they're off to the UK in august for a mini-tour, including Reading/Leeds. Hot.

Shout out to the Ex-Lovers for making the Casey Spooner look-alikes shake their stuff to New Edition on saturday night. Classic.

Check out photos of Ben Kweller at the Bowery Ballroom.
