i get along
As suspected and expected, the bowery show last night was much better than CBGB, check what Jinners has to say about the Luxx gig.
It seems that in the past week the four Libertines have acquired some sort of new york comfort. I don't blame them, by now, they must have made lots of new friends (see highlights) and i bet they're enjoying the bars and the parties. As far as their performance goes, not too many changes from the CBs show... set list was almost identical. Peter looked more fired up this time, screaming lyrics off-microphone. I left with the same feeling as last time: i had fun, but...
Some highlights:
- Pete was already covered in sweat before he even touched one guitar string... uhuh.
- Bassist John looked as bored as ever, but we don't take it personally, you know some people just don't show excitement.
- Drummer Gary is not often talked about, but he's got the energy and he keeps the boys in line, musically that is.
- Some guy, apparently a friend they just met? i think his name was Chris went onstage to sing a song with the band. I hope it was a joke.
- Yes, they did bring everyone onstage at the end. It was so much more chaotic than CBs, security was so-not-happy. But, miss "i'll never go up there" new york doll did go up shamelessly. i do give her props for being on a mission and grabbing that set list!
- Because you now know of my super powers (the people who help me notice), i should let you know that Damon was at the show, as well as The Kills, who seem to have relocated to nyc.
Last night i also caught, Neil LaBute's new film "The Shape of things". I don't want to spoil too much, but if you're familiar with LaBute's other films, you know that his lead characters are always very malicious and manipulative. No difference with this picture, except that maybe this time i felt a little sympathy for the evil girl. Really good acting, interesting story, i would have liked a bit more of an ending.
Last but not least... please welcome Stellastarr* to the NME hype! Can't say i didn't warn you! [link from Matt]

NBC is replaying Last Call with Carson Daly with Stellastarr* tonight, 1:30am.
Wow! Steve Longwave pulled a Fab Strokes on us. Is big poofy curly hair on its way out? By the way, Jasper took the best picture of Diego i have seen thus far. Yeah, the tongue one, i love it!
Vince gives us his take on the Coachella experience, that includes some lomo action.
Miss modernage also posted her Part 1 report... in case you're wondering, yes, it is true, i have superior celeb-spotting skills. I can smell them behind my back, i can see them in the dark, i can point them out in the middle of a polo field filled up with 50,000 mortals. Did i tell you i'm bionic woman?

I added new photo galleries: Stellastarr* at the knitting factory, Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Bowery and The Walkmen (this one's for Jinners!). Coachella pics on their way...
Did you know that they're putting 120 Minutes to sleep for good? Tonight's the last one ever, the great Matt Pinfield is on it, as well as the creator of the show. They're playing the classic 120 Minutes videos and showing clips with different guests. They're going to replace it with a new show called Subterranean... i'm assuming it has something to do with "underground/alternative" music, considering that the promo shows clips of The White Stripes, Interpol and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I guess they just wanted to get rid of the 17 years baggage of the show, i'm curious to see how different it will be.
