cover me, please
I've been wanting to compile a cover songs CD (only released material). I thought some of you would have some good suggestions, so far some of my favorites are (in alphabetical order for now):
Tori Amos - Enjoy the silence [Depeche mode]
Fiona Apple - Across the universe [The Beatles]
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah [Leonard Cohen]
Bjork - It's oh so quiet [?]
The Changelings - Sunday morning [The Velvet Underground]
Neil Finn - There is a light that never goes out [The Smiths]
Frente - Bizarre Love Triangle [New order]
Ben Harper - The drugs don't work [The Verve]
Luna (with Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab) - Bonnie & Clyde [Serge Gainsbourg]
Luna - La poupee qui fait non [Michel Polnareff]
Vanessa Paradis - Les Cactus [Jacques Dutronc]
Vanessa Paradis - I'm waiting for the man [The Velvet Underground]
Placebo - Big mouth strikes again [The Smiths]
Placebo - 20th century toy [T-Rex]
Starsailor - The way young lovers do [Van Morrisson]
Tricky - Black steel [Public Enemy]
Scott Walker - Amsterdam [Jacques Brel]
The White Stripes - Jolene [Dolly Parton]
I need to check Cat Power's cover album, and Mick Harvey's Gainsbourg cover records, i'm sure i'll find some really good ones. What else, what else?

The boys in the band
Do you care about the Brit Awards nominations (equivalent to the Grammy's in the US)? if so you can look at the nominees here as well. Did The Libertines get completely snobbed? or were they not eligible?
Did you know there is a band called The Audreys?!? Boy do i feel so unique! why would you want to name your band after such an old lady's name (yeah, you gotta admit the only other audreys you know besides me are your great aunts and grandmothers' sisters). if they're anything like The Donnas, we'll have something like, Audrey A, Audrey B, Audrey C, Audrey D, Audrey E, ok you get it. i haven't listened to their music yet, but i'm kinda hoping they're good, so i can sport my own "Audreys" t-shirt (Laura promised she would get it for me)... now how cool would i look??

My coco
I really like it when a band starts growing on me, one that didn't seem to particularly grab me at first... the phenomenom is happening here with Stellastarr*. I saw them live once before, and didn't really know what to make of them, but we saw them again on saturday night at the Luna Lounge and this time, i really enjoyed the gig. Everything sounded tight, and singer Shawn Christensen's delivery was quite impressive. He has a nervous energy that makes his onstage presence intense and mesmerizing. All four band members seemed really into the performance, focusing on their individual instruments, while still responding to one another on stage. After the show, i even got their current Somewhere Across Forever EP, and think it's quite rocking. Too bad, my favorite song of saturday night's set, My coco, isn't on the EP... oh well, check them out anyway. On a side note, Shawn is a very talented painter/illustrator, i need his Bjork painting on my wall!!
I may be completely behind on that one, but you gotta check Electric Six's video for Danger! High Voltage. Admit it, you love that video, i know i do (and i bet you, it will never get any airplay in this country!). and the song is just too catchy, can't escape it... it brought the house down at Tiswas on saturday night.
